Good Cookery

I find a cookbook from the Gloucester School of Domestic Science. (1936) It has a great section on invalid cookery which cautions only using 'fresh' ingredients and a rather ominous recipe for raw beef tea and arrowroot gruel. There was also a 'Devil's on Horseback' recipe, which starts with the sentence "stone sufficient french plums. Fill with chutney and one browned salted almond. Wrap a thin slice of fat bacon around them and cook in a quick oven till bacon is crisp"
