Examples of my type design and illustration work. Topic: Italian food. #italian #calabria #yesitalian Since the feel of the food was pure, authentic and home made. I used water color paintbrush to convey a hand hewn, hand made approach.
In this design (above) I wanted to create a small town/village feel but drawing houses and dwellings to convey this.

October News: This week we won a MIN award for Editorial Design and Photography for "Yes, Italian." This is a 10 pages feature I designed for the Weightwatchers brand, back in the Spring. It was a pleasure for me to design this story, because of the beautiful location and studio photographic images.
"Weight Watchers Magazine’s editor in chief, Theresa DiMasi, documents Calabria, Italy, where her parents were born, for her piece entitled, ‘Yes, Italian.’ She invites Weight Watchers Magazine readers to experience the spirit of the region, the people, the beautiful environment—using photographs captured by Andrea Wyner, and some taken by Theresa’s own family and friends—and of course, focuses on the delectable cuisine which was photographed by Johnny Miller, all of which was then showcased in the magazine in a 10-page spread."
Congratulations to: Andrea Wyner for location photography. Johnny Miller for studio food photography. Susan Spungen for recipes and food styling. Carla Gonzalez-Hart for studio prop styling. Marybeth Dulany for production, and on-location and studio art direction.
FOOD CONTENT: My type designs, plus creative on-set art directing of the food shoot. Example of how I can take a beginning sketch, right through to finished, printed art.

CREATIVE DIRECTION: COOKING LIGHT MAGAZINE Concept, Design and On-set art direction.
On a cold November morning, we crept down, almost like thieves in the night, to DC on a very secret mission to photograph the first lady, Michelle Obama. Who turned out to be everything I'd read about, and more: gracious, smart, disarmingly funny and refreshingly down-to-earth. It was a memorable day, and a day I'll certainly never forget. The March 2015 issue with Michelle Obama on the cover, is out now. This is the first time we have ever run a person on the cover in the 27 year history of Cooking Light, and I'm so flattered and thrilled to have been the Creative Director on this project. Thanks to photographer Peggy Sirota, and her team, Erin Clinton. Producer: Amy Delaune, Food stylist Chris Lanier, with Anna Hampton, and of course our editor, Hunter Lewis. Who's vision it was, right from the beginning. Great work team!

CREATIVE DIRECTION: COOKING LIGHT MAGAZINE Concept and On-set art direction.
My goal with the current Chicken feature on newsstands right now was to elevate the humble weeknight meal, with a combination of props, both still, and organic. The combination of wooden cutting boards, worn tin surfaces, old cooking books, and whole veggies, like carrots, onions, lemon skins, and herbs, instantly created a comfy, soulful feel.
